Coherent gradient sensing: a Fourier optics analysis and applications to fracture.
A Fourier optics analysis for a recently developed lateral shearing interferometry-coherent gradient sensing-is presented. The governing equations for the method are explicitly derived. The method of coherent gradient sensing is particularly suitable for investigating the mechanics of fracture of transparent and opaque solids. Several examples demonstrating the applicability of the method to qu...

A new full field optical technique 'Coherent Gradient Sensing' (CGS) is developed and used to study crack tip deformations in transparent as well as opaque solids. A first order diffraction analysis is provided for the technique and its feasibility is demonstrated both in transmission and reflection modes. Preliminary results from the dynamic crack growth experiment clearly demonstrate the capa...

متن کاملCoherent Gradient Sensing Microscopy: Microinterferometric Technique for Quantitative Cell Detection
Micro-CGS, an integration of the interferometric optical method Coherent Gradient Sensing (CGS) [1-3] with an inverted microscope, is introduced. Micro-CGS extends the capabilities of Classical CGS into the cellular level. As such, it provides full-field, real-time, micro-interferometric quantitative imaging. Micro-CGS is based on the introduction of a microscope objective into the classical CG...
متن کاملInterpretation of fringes obtained with coherent gradient sensing.
An interference analysis for double-grating shearing interferometry called coherent gradient sensing is presented, and the results are compared with an earlier geometrical optics analysis and a Fourier optics analysis based on the Fresnel approximation. The influence of the order of approximation in these analyses and the equivalence of fringe interpretation in each case are discussed.
